Don’t let the PG-13 rating of the theatrical version of Sam Raimi’s Stride Me to Hell fool you, this is hard boiled dread that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Though he may be more recognzied these days for bringing Spider-Man to the tremendous hide, Raimi first made a name for himself with the Nasty Dumb trilogy, which began as a hardcore, balls to the wall anxiety franchise that gradually merged slapstick comedy into the equation. While there is a satisfactory amount of unlit humor to be found with Coast Me to Hell, the film as a whole is a dizzying, nerve-rattling dawdle from the opening sequence good to its conclusion. Alison Lohman stars as Christine, an ambitious loan officer at a bank who is seeking a great time promotion. In an peril to fetch it, she makes a tough decision in turning down a third extension on the mortgage of an musty gypsy woman (Lorna Raver), who subsequently puts a curse on her that will culminate in her soul being taken to Hell. Justin Long is along for the trek as Christine’s caring boyfriend, and Dileep Rao stars as a psychic who may be able to assist Christine, who resorts to more desperate and desperate actions in an trouble to attach herself. Packed with some surprisingly unpleasant and disgusting moments, Race Me to Hell is a compelling and genuinely plain film that you will not soon forget. I can’t enjoy I’m going to say this but Spin Me to Hell is my well-liked movie of the year so far (Inglourious Basterds is a stop second) . I plan this Sam Raimi gem would accumulate mixed reviews at best, so I was blown away when I saw the 100 or so clear reviews flowing in from critics. It ranks with UP and Star Saunter as one of the best reviewed movies of the year. That rarely happens with a fear film, but this one is so powerful more. It’s paunchy of unlit humor, foul out gags (really pushes the PG-13 envelope), reliable acting, nice SFX and an enchanting anecdote. I can’t remember the last time I was this surprised at how distinguished better the movie was than any of the trailers or what I had expected going in.

Alison Lohman really sold me here. She is very cute, but she shows the smarts and toughness you almost never peek in a scare flick. Really obliging stuff from her. The whole cast from Justin Long to the nasty gypsy lady is space on and you can’t leave out director Sam Raimi. His visual style here will remind you of The Inferior Dumb trilogy, but with a bigger budget and fair as worthy creativeness. It was enormous to gawk this now summer blockbuster director go benefit to his roots and knock it out of the park. The music and sound effects are some of the best I’ve heard in a long time. When it goes from calm to extremely loud, the sound alone will form you jump. Out of all the movies I have seen in theaters, I can’t remember one with sound mixing this obedient.

Well, do you deem I liked Paddle Me to Hell unprejudiced a shrimp bit? Really? When it comes to awe films, especially in novel years, few pack the thrills, laughs and entertainment value that this one brings.

Toshihiro Hirano (Magic Knight Rayearth) directed both the earlier Vampire Princess Miyu OAVs and these less dramatic but more graphic broadcast episodes based on the manga created by his wife, Narumi Kakinouchi. Instead of wandering, Miyu enrolls in an urban high school, makes a few friends, and battles the local “demon-gods” or Shinma. “Larva” has become “Lava,” more of a companion than a servant, who removes his stark mask to reveal the face of a standard bishonen, or beautiful boy. He and Miyu are joined by Shina, a spirit who resembles a cross between a rabbit and the Pokemon Clefairy. Hirano and the writers draw on more Western elements in these stories, despite the sakuhachi (bamboo flute) music. This version of Miyu is less aloof and more human, although she remains a formidable warrior. Still, the broadcast adventures lack the panache of the OAVs. Filmed on location at the Family Dog Ballroom in San Francisco in September, 1970, the show captures the heyday and diversity of the San Francisco sound with three of the most well known bands to emerge from the scene: Santana, who would release their second album at the end of 1970; The Grateful Dead, including original band member Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, who were making a name for themselves with their jam-filled performances; and Jefferson Airplane, who were at the time the biggest of the bands from the area.

San Francisco was an area of artistic creation during the mid-to-late 60’s. Whether it was art, poetry or music, the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco was the place for like-minded individuals to explore and create. Noted jazz columnist Ralph J. Gleason took note of the exploding rock music scene and produced several television specials and documentaries spotlighting the music emerging from San Francisco. A Night At The Family Dog is one part of a two-part series (the other is Go Ride The Music) that aired on The National Educational Television Network in 1970.

The audio for this program has been extrapolated up to Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound mixes from their original mono source! This show has never sounded or looked so good!
